Smoke tests

Struggling with vermin, foul odours or unsolvable leaks? We’ll smoke that problem out.

Are you
experiencing
one of these
problems?

  • There are foul odours in the basement.
  • There is vermin intrusion, and you suspect a broken sewer pipe.
  • There is a sewage smell in the house.

The value we bring
to the table

Camera inspections are always included. We use sophisticated cameras to precisely identify the root cause of the problem. We also provide a digital copy of the video and archive the inspection at our offices. There is no extra cost for this.

We don’t poke holes, but we find them. Leaky joints. Dried p-traps. Cracks in your vents. Our smoke tests will pinpoint your pipe’s weak points and eliminate nasty surprises.

No odours. No toxic fumes. Erroneously called “smoke tests” in the industry, our smoke tests are safe; we do not use any harmful chemicals.

Interested in learning more? We’ll conduct smoke tests to prevent further damage and nuisances.

Tips to avoid
problems

FAQ: How do I detect the source of foul odours?

Do some areas of your home have unpleasant odours? If foul odours escape from your floor even though your basement is dry, a first step would be to pour a cup of water and vegetable oil into the floor drain. The water will fill the p-trap, and the oil will serve as a protective layer to prevent water from evaporating too quickly. If the odour comes from somewhere else, or if the first step doesn’t solve the problem, a smoke test can be performed by Drain-Clair experts to find the source and seal it off.

FAQ: I’ve got rats intruding in the house, and I suspect the sewer pipe is broken. What shall I do?

A smoke test will allow us to make sure that the sewer pipe is not broken. Drain-Clair will inject a non-harmful suspension in the sewer pipe, and if there is an opening in the pipe, it will show inside the house and lead us to the break. A CCTV inspection of the pipe will also be performed. We can then find the leak or ensure there is none.

FAQ: How do I repair a broken sewer?

A Drain-Clair expert will recommend the installation of a FORMADRAIN® liner, which consists of inserting a fibreglass and epoxy pipe in an existing drain. This no-dig process is eco-friendly and cost-effective. Plus, there is no mess!
